this is editable that means we miss something today... we add it.. we miss something next fall - some kids request things.. we add it.. leaving your initials by changes helpful but not necessary ______________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ one of the best skills we can leave with our kids - the ability to self-regulate/automate/assess/refine/etc why not model that.. about if we believe our business is about learning and learning how to learn... and if we believe that has changed drastically, because of the networking ability to people and info via the web... then we must also believe that teacher professional development must also drastically change. if one size doesn't fit all for students learning... it certainly doesn't fit all for teacher learning (which is what pd should be - yes?) and once again, 70% of our time, most often spent on classroom management, becomes available as you have attracted learners per your style, making the most of who's together in a room, per choice _______________________________________________________ get the picture?... possible scenarios: 1. mr. joe excels in science, he's a master in this field... he's the one everyone runs to with content questions,...well they would, if they had time. and he would share more, make podcasts even, develop an online library, to make his sharing more efficient, ... if he only had time. mr joe wants to be stretched... he'd like to be spending more time sharing with colleagues about his content, maybe even taking in some free doctorate courses...become dr joe. the rest of the department, and the students would love more one-on-one with him.. mr joe is burnt out of mtg after mtg on how to manage a classroom. dealing with discipline more than teaching seems like a waste for a master of content such as mr joe. 2. pete is a first year teacher, he is in need of a good mentor. group sessions of pd don't really seem to help his particular style. pete shares mr joe's passion for science. he wishes he could spend more time learning about science from him. maybe even take a few courses with him. 3. sally is overwhelmed with keeping up with technology. she attends every pd for learning some new tech tool. nothing is sustaining for her. if she could just focus on what her students need and have an *individual tech expert for tech support... she would save a ton of time and stress. having *someone help her bring tech - as needed - into her classroom, help her set up a self-automating site..would delight her and give her new energy to do the work that she loves. {*trained students as tech interns, see innovation lab #2&3} 4. kait is brilliant, but she is unable to communicate that brilliance to a group of kids. she loves being around kids and is not interested in the path mr joe would like to take, but she needs help. kait wants to know more about creating lessons that work.. kait would love to count her pd time as time following great teachers in her field.. (ie: weekly/daily sessions with dan meyer - or substitute any expert in your field) __________________________________________________ suggestions for your pd: 1. join/create your pln 2. learn more about art 3. learn more about leadership 4. design your own pd 5. share what you learn about learning 6. let go of tech pd __________________________________________ |
